In September the Cumberland mayor and City Council voted unanimously to accept a proposal from EADS Group Inc., engineering and surveying firm, to create designs and analyze the cost of renovating the downtown mall. The council is now ready to finalize those plans, which include opening the mall to vehicular traffic, and have scheduled a public work session on the subject for Tuesday afternoon. The preliminary plans called for opening each end of the mall to one-way traffic while maintaining a pedestrian area in front of the Baltimore Street Grill- however that could change as there is some sentiment to open the entire mall to two-way traffic.
