Former Cumberland City Councilwoman Mary Beth Pirolozzi has been selected by the Judges of Orphans Court to fill the Register of Wills post which was vacated earlier this month with the resignation of Rebecca Drew. Following months of rumor and speculation, Drew resigned August 15th, a little more than a month after she was indicted by an Allegany County Grand Jury on one count of misconduct in office, two counts of felony theft and one count of misappropriation by a fiduciary stemming from alleged misuse of an office credit card card and checking account. Pirolozzi, prior to serving as a member of the city council, worked many years as administrative assistant to state senator’s John Bambacus and John Hafer. Most recently she has headed the local County United Way. Pirolozzi was one of more than a half a dozen candidates to submit letters of interest and resumes to the Orphans Court- of which four were interviewed. According to sources, Pirolozzi; assistant states attorney Erich Bean; House of Delegates 1C representative Mike Mckay; and former sheriff David Goad received meetings with Judges Donna May and Ed Crossland earlier this week- with the decision to appoint coming Friday morning.
