The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will perform routine cleaning and maintenance of the inlets on westbound I-68 in Cumberland beginning Sunday, August 16. Cleaning of the inlet drains is necessary to remove debris from the drainage system and allow water to flow away from the highway to provide a safer riding surface for motorists.
The on-ramp from Lee Street/Beall Street to westbound I-68 will be closed to allow crews access to the inlets. Work will be performed August 16, 17 and 18 from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning, weather permitting. Portable message signs will be used to alert drivers to the closure and motorists will be directed via detour signs to follow the posted detour route: northbound Lee Street, to westbound Greene Street, to westbound I-68.
MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving and, look for reduced speed limits, as well as other pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slowdown in construction zones.
