The Cumberland Times News reports the Maryland Department of Environment is analyzing discolored water in the North Branch of the Potomac River between Rawlings and McCoole to find the source of contamination. Compliance specialist Pete Hartman Thursday afternoon sampled water beneath the bridge that leads to West Virginia near the Gary Yoder Public Boat Launch. The water had no smell and did not appear to be oily, Hartman said. "We're still trying to identify the source and the Fisheries Service is helping us to do that," he said. Hartman said the change in the river could be from a sediment load.
