Former Cumberland City Councilwoman Nicole Alt Myers Is expected to make it official today – filing to run for what will be a vacant House of Delegates 1C seat. With incumbent Mike McKay now pursuing the Allegany County Register of Wills seat- he has taken himself out of running for a second term in Annapolis. If McKay is selected to fill the vacant register of wills seat, he will resign his House seat immediately- leaving the two county Republican Central Committees – Allegany and Washington – to select his successor. There are several rumored candidates in Washington County said to be eyeing the seat- most notably County Commissioners President Terry Baker. Ironically, in Allegany County it is also the president of the county commissioners- Jake Shade- whose name is most often mentioned as a possibility. With Alt Myers filing to run, she is seeking to fill the seat once held by her husband Leroy Myers between 2003 and 2014- having pulled a major election upset to win the office when he defeated Speaker of the House Casper Taylor. Nicole’s pursuit of the office has been anything but a secret, with her name having been mentioned as early as two years ago as a potential candidate.
