Waylon James Smith arrived three days early, just in time to be the first baby born at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, and the Cumberland Times News reports he could possibly be the first baby of the new year in the state. While a WBAL.com headline on Thursday read, “Maryland Welcomed First Baby Of 2020, Born 22 Minutes Into New Year,” Waylon, whose parents and grandparents live in Cumberland, appeared at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday. He was 6 pounds, 10.1 ounces and measured 19 3/4 inches. Corey Smith and Felicia Gordon, who went to the hospital just after 9 p.m. Dec. 31 are the parents.
