The City of Cumberland, with the support of local business donors, will again be providing a community fireworks display in celebration of America’s Independence Day. Thanks to a cooperative arrangement with Bishop Walsh School and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Baltimore, this year’s display will be shot from the area of the blue water tank near Bishop Walsh School on Haystack Mountain at dark on Friday, July 4th with a rain date of Saturday, July 5th.
Although the City has for many years used an area of Constitution Park to host the fireworks, new state regulations regarding the launch site’s close proximity to occupied buildings has caused the City to look for alternative sites. The Bishop Walsh site was determined to be a top choice for relocation of the display due to its high visibility throughout the community.
“The City would like to thank Bishop Walsh School and the Baltimore Archdiocese for hosting this eagerly anticipated and popular event,” stated Mayor Brian Grim. “This new location should provide great views of even the smaller shells in the display. Look for the blue water tank on Haystack Mountain near the Narrows. If you can see that, you will be able to see the fireworks.” According to Grim, the downtown area may provide one of the best viewing experiences for this visual extravaganza.
The City has advised that no public parking will be allowed at Bishop Walsh School and the Cumberland Police Department will be patrolling the area.
