2 PM UPDATE: All lanes of Interstate 70 have now been reopened to traffic.
10 AM UPDATE: Eyewitnesses tell WCBC that eastbound traffic has now been backed up for six miles, taking it back to a mile on Interstate 68 prior to the Route 522 Exit.
On December 18, 2017 at approximately 157 A.M., the Hagerstown Barrack received a call in reference to a tanker trailer that was overturned in the median. At the five mile marker on eastbound I-70. Upon the Troopers arrival, Washington County Fireboard was on the scene extricating the driver. The tanker was leaking motor oil. Maryland MDE was summoned and is on the scene assisting with the leakage. SHA was also summoned to assist with offloading and traffic issues. Due to the extensive operation, the eastbound lanes will be closed for an undetermined amount of time. Anyone traveling through the area is urged to make allowances for road closures pending this operation. Additional press releases to follow as the conditions change.
