During a press conference/rally held last week to shine a spotlight on the lack of progress being made with replacing the Washington Street Bridge, city, county and state officials all spoke favorably about pursuing the concept of alternate modular bridge technology. Those bridges are considered durable, are built off site, and could meet the railroad clearance needs and be designed to appeal to the aesthetic concerns in an historic area. In addition, such a bridge would be far more inexpensive than a standard bridge. Mayor Ray Morris said the concept has merit, but there are some engineering questions that will have to be addressed before moving forward…
