MD Attorney General Says Gov. Hogan Doesn’t Need Legislation To Dispatch State Police To Baltimore

Calling it a "life and death crisis," — particularly in Baltimore — Maryland Governor Larry Hogan last month announced plans to re-designate his violent-crime bill package as emergency legislation. The emergency designation would allow the package of bills led by a measure to increase penalties for certain gun crimes to take effect immediately upon Hogan's approval. That legislation would give the governor the ability to declare a state of emergency in Baltimore due to the crime- allowing him to put state police in the city. Maryland Attorney General Brian Frosh weighed in on the issue and said that basically the governor doesn’t need new legislation to dispatch state police to the city- he already has the ability to do so- as other governors have done in the past…
