On Wednesday at approximately 8:40 p.m., Troopers from the McHenry Barrack responded to westbound I-68 in the area of Lower New Germany Rd, for the report of a single vehicle collision. Upon arrival, it was determined that the driver, Gerald Andrew Herpel of McHenry, MD, was operating a 2016 GMC truck. For unknown reasons, Herpel lost control of the vehicle and struck the center median guard rail. Futher investigation revealed Herpel appeared to be intoxicated. Tfc Broadwater placed Herpel through field sobriety and was subsequently placed him under arrest for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. All events occurred in Garrett County, MD.
