Maryland Senator Speaking Out After Iranian Leader’s Killing

January 3rd, 2020 by WCBC Radio

Wbal is reports Sen. Ben Cardin is speaking out after the leader of Iran's Quds Force was killed Thursday night in a U.S. airstrike near an airport in Baghdad.  On the order of President Donald Trump, U.S. forces issued an airstrike that killed General Qassem Soleimani, according to the Department of Defense.

Cardin released in a statement:

"President Trump's decision to kill Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad is a provocative act taken without congressional consultation or authorization, the potential consequences of which are unknown. The Pentagon in its statement, characterized the strike as 'a defensive action to protect U.S. personnel abroad,' but the Trump administration's repeated confrontations with Iran tell a different story. Dating to his withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear agreement in 2018, this president has unfailingly raised tensions with Iran, and his latest act puts Americans at risk by all but inviting retaliation against U.S. and allied interests inside and outside of Iraq. There is no imminent threat aside from that which the president has provoked. President Trump should stop the provocations and allow diplomacy to take root."

The Department of Defense said the general was "actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region."

Cardin is a co-sponsor of legislation aimed to prohibit war with Iran unless permitted by Congress.

      > Yes, this was a really bad guy – that is not in dispute. However this act is the same as if Iran killed the U.S. Secretary of Defense. How do you think the U.S. would have reacted to that? It also reflects Trump’s lack of understanding as to the consequences of this. Iran does not need to “beat” us in a conventional war – that’s not the goal for them. They can however create epic damage in the middle east as well as around the world – and yes, here.

Trump did what he accused Obama of thinking about doing – start a war with Iran to improve his election chances. Trump did not care about this guy killing Americans. He was pissed off at Nancy Pelosi and took it out on this guy.

Again – this was a really bad guy, but there is going to be a really big ‘due bill’ that the U.S. is going to pay.

Agree 100% Kevin. By any standard this was an act of war. David Dennison doesn’t have much of a brain so he thinks with the little guy downstairs.

Funny how Obama could kill hundreds without going to Congress and no complaints. It is high time we exited the Middle East and stopped expending our money, strength and time there when it is needed at home.

You forget that we “turned the other cheek” when Iran shot down our drone a short time ago. If the situation would present itself, Trump would be chastised by the democrats if he had taken out Hitler.

I suppose the world learned what happens when you attack a US Embassy when slugs like Obama and Clinton are not in charge. Not surprised Democrats are terrorist sympathizers.

Cardin is spineless. There has been much restraint regarding Iran over the last year/decades. They crossed a line and now their nose has been bloodied.

I was raised and educated in Allegany County until I left in 1966. I enlisted in the USAF early in June the following year and have 21 + years to our military leavening a trade for life. I saw terrorism overseas first hand and often thought to myself, “Why do we as Americans, a world leading nation allow terrorists to continually to do their evil deeds and kill so many innocent people and create such havoc? ” There’s no simple answer, but the powers to be didn’t want to be blamed and labeled as the country who forced themselves onto others. This helped breed these cruel and malicious organizations to grow and expand their death and destruction to so many places in the world. If back then we had leadership with some backbone and not worried about being so politely correct (PC) the world be such a different place and so many innocent lives would be with their loved ones. Not buried or blown to pieces. The world would be a much content and beautiful place.

Another reason the world terrorism problem doesn’t go away is the Good Old Boy Politicians AND Big Business are in CAHOOTS, MONEY, GREED, and POWER doesn’t want the world to be at peace because there’s not as much profit to be made in peace. Our American Senators and Congressmen get lobbied and get very rich while in office. Just look at their financial status before, during, and after they leave office. Startling that they get inside information to steer their investments and their family and friends to the Right Stuff. Hey isn’t that what most are accusing our current President of. WE NEED TO REVAMP OUR RULES AND GUIDELINES COMPLETELY NOW. And while we are at it IMPEACH all who have violated the public trust. Only the American Public can do this at the voting booth electing Real American candidates to effect these changes. It will take some time, but over a six (6) Year period get a majority in place to make real changes like Term Limits, Change politicians Medical Plan to what most other Americans have to live with, and cut back on the lobbying that has overwhelmed our system, benefiting the Drug Companies and other Big Business. We NEED to cut Foreign Aid and provide some National Aid right here in the US. I could go on and on but I’ve said enough for now.

One country’s leader and national hero CAN BE the rest of the world’s worst terrorist and nightmare.

Please God help us Americans to work together and continue to be the Great Country we have become and NOT tear it apart and create frustration and hate amongst us. Amen

    PEACE

More hot air from the left. 3.5%GDP and lowest taxes and unemployment in 50 years. The border is now under control so we can continue to be a free sovereign republic! Obama never notified Congress until days later after he killed hundreds over 8 years with drones. I think Obama did the right thing. Cardin is an old blowhard that has been in Washington for over years. Trump 2020! KAG!

Hank, How did you manage to get some many facts wrong?

The averaged GDP for 2019 looks like it will come in just above 2%.

While we all love the low taxes, look at our roads, our bridges, our schools and our country as a whole.

Then you cite the unemployment numbers – with people in Allegany County making a whopping $11.00/hour thanks to an increase in minimum wage. No wonder why this place is getting deserted. Just because people are working doesn’t mean they aren’t the working poor.

And as far as our border being under control, that’s simply laughable. Have you heard about the huge reduction in drugs crossing our borders? No? Me either. And guess what? If drugs are making it in, so isn’t anyone and everyone else that has the money.

Don’t misunderstand what I’m saying. I look at President Trump just like every other president in my lifetime. He’s done some excellent work and he’s made a few mistakes, in my opinion. All things considered, we’ve had worse.

However, if this killing escalates into another war without end, the president is going to own it entirely.
