Maryland schools, set to reopen next week, will instead remain closed through May 15, state Superintendent Karen Salmon announced Friday.
Most states and the District of Columbia have canceled school for the rest of the school year. Maryland is holding out hope. However, Salmon said that traditional graduation ceremonies are off the table.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggest school closures as a way to mitigate substantial community spread of the coronavirus.
