Maryland Primary Election is Today

June 2nd, 2020 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland primary election is today- however there is just one local race appearing on today’s ballot in Allegany County. There are 9 candidates running for three open seats on the Allegany County Board of Education- with the top six finishers today advancing to the November election. Election administrator Diane Loibel tells WCBC News that the primary is being conducted largely by mail this year due to the coronavirus pandemic- but there are other voting options…

The U.S. Presidential race will be on the ballot to select a Democratic and Republican candidate, as well as candidates to be delegates to the national conventions. Also on the ballot is the Sixth District Congressional race. For the Democrats, incumbent Rep. David Trone is being challenged by Maxwell Bero. Republican hopefuls include Kevin Caldwell, Chris Meyyur and Neil Parrott. Although there are two open seats on the Cumberland City Council this year- not enough candidates filed to require a primary- with all four candidates automatically moving to the general election on November 3rd. Despite the unusual voting situation created by the pandemic, Loibel said she projects voter response in the 25 to 28% range which would be fairly close to the normal primary election numbers.

Most of us have already fraudulently voted by mail. I hope the good people of Allegany County didn’t take their ballots to Staple’s and make multiple copies so they could vote early and often.
