Maryland Health Connection is offering a second emergency special enrollment period for Marylanders who need health insurance during the coronavirus outbreak, Gov. Larry Hogan announced Friday. The enrollment period runs through Dec. 15. More than 54,000 Marylanders enrolled in health coverage during the first special enrollment period from March 16 to July 15.
"The people of our great state have endured so many personal, medical, and economic challenges, and this crisis is not yet behind us," Hogan said in a statement. "Reopening the special enrollment period is another way we are helping Marylanders weather this storm, get back on their feet, and recover."
With the announcement, Maryland's special enrollment period is the longest in the nation.
“As Maryland continues to battle this global pandemic, we would like to make it as easy as possible for uninsured Marylanders to address their health concerns by reopening the coronavirus special enrollment period to help our Maryland families get the health coverage they need,” said Michele Eberle, executive director of the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange, which administers Maryland Health Connection.
Health plans cover testing and visits related to testing and treatment of the coronavirus. Under executive orders issued by Hogan, patients will not be charged copays, coinsurances or deductibles for services related to the testing, diagnosis or treatment of coronavirus.
The special enrollment is available for private plans only. Marylanders who qualify for Medicaid may enroll at any time the year.
