Maryland Budget and Management Secretary David Brinkley spent much of his Thursday in Allegany County meeting with the District One legislative delegation. The three hour public meeting provided a forum with the secretary for county and municipal officials from Allegany and Garrett counties as well as board of education members, representatives from area colleges and the chamber of commerce and Greater Cumberland Committee. Brinkley ended his day by meeting with representatives from Canal Place, which included a walking tour of the Footer Dye Works building. A recurring theme and point of concern coming from local governments centered on the need to restore highway user funds that go toward bridge and road projects. Those funds were dramatically reduced during the O’Malley years. Allegany County officials also asked about the possibility of additional funding for the new Allegany High School.
