The Martinsburg VA Medical Center (VAMC) had a visit from 90 year old WWII Veteran Gregg P. Davis to share his recently published autobiography “Battle Tested” with the medical center director.
Raised near Altoona, Pennsylvania, Davis was drafted only 22 days after his high school graduation. Davis became a decorated Army Veteran who served as a mortar man in the 89th Division during WWII. His autobiography shares his stories from being a street kid during the great depression to being the first group of American Soldiers to liberate the first concentration camp during WWII.
Davis has dedicated part of his autobiography to the Department of Veterans Affairs with special credit to the team of health care providers at the Martinsburg VAMC.
The dedication reads: “To all the staff members of the Martinsburg, W. Va. Veterans Hospital and especially Ann, Nancy, Larry and Timothy Cooke, medical center director; thank you for rescuing me from a dark hole and helping me tell me story.”
“It was wonderful to hear what an impact the providers here at the medical center had on Mr. Davis’s health care.” said Cooke. “The medical center is committed to providing the highest quality health care to all of our Veterans.”
After the war Davis returned home where he raised his family with his loving wife and partner of more than 70 years and had a career as a teacher in Tuscarora School District.
