March Movie Madness at the Library

March 13th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

Many know that the Allegany County Library System has books of every variety and has them in all formats-print, audio, digital. But did you also know that we have movies and television series that you can check-out for free in any of our six libraries or download from our library website at any hour of the day? To celebrate movies and to promote awareness of our movie collection, we are having March Movie Madness at the Library System this spring!

Our amazing library staff picked some of their favorite movies and are we inviting the community to help us pick a winner-“March Madness style!” Stop in at any branch of the Allegany County Library System to vote for your choice of staff picks and help us narrow our bracket down to the “Final Four”; you can also vote online on Facebook@AlleganyCountyLibrary. We will have two movies going head to head for the final vote.  Patrons and staff will be asked to vote for the movie they like best of the two, starting March 19 – March 23rd. On Monday, March 25th, the final winner will be announced. Participants in the voting will be eligible for a prize drawing for a gift certificate to the Country Club Cinemas.

We will also be showing some movies in the libraries as programs this spring as part of our celebrations. Just in time for the Final Four, we will be having a basketball-themed family movie night at the LaVale Library on Thursday, April 4th, at 6 p.m. Come and enjoy “Airbud”, rated PG, and popcorn with your family and friends. Airbud is the story of a young boy and a talented stray dog with an amazing basketball playing ability who become instant friends.

We will also be screening 3 Maryland Public Television movies for adults this spring. Below is a listing of dates and times for the films:

"The Providers", Saturday, April 6th, South Cumberland Library, 1 p.m.

"Won't You Be My Neighbor?", Saturday, April 20th, LaVale Library, 1 p.m.

"Wrestle", Thursday, May 9th, George's Creek Library, 6 pm.
