The Marcellus Shale Safe Drilling Advisory Commission has lived up to its name and issued a Best Practices report that includes recommendations for some of the most restrictive drilling practices in the nation.
The document, which will be concluded in a final report, includes a recommendation that any hydralic fracturing rig not be located within 2,000 feet It also includes an approach which would require drillers to submit a plan for an entire area rather than one well at a time.
The regs are said to be some of the toughest in the nation. The Maryland Petroleum Council had feared the report being so restrictive that those who considered drilling in Maryland may just skip the state in order to drill in states that are more frack friendly.
