One man has been carrying on the fight for more than thirty years- and now he has a few elected officials backing his effort to see a new secondary school located in the Georges Creek area. Tom Marsh, a Westernport businessman, has been urging the board of education to reconsider the closing of Bruce High School from the day the action was voted on back in 1986. At that time, Bruce merged with Valley High School in Lonaconing to form Westmar High School. Westmar was converted into a middle school in 2007 when the new Mountain Ridge High opened in Frostburg. Since that time, two new high schools have been constructed in Cumberland and Frostburg. At a recent school board meeting, Luke Mayor Ed Clemons, speaking for himself and Westernport Mayor Tim Jackson said that it’s time to correct what he calls an injustice by re-establishing a secondary school for the region…
