Just a few days remain to file to run for office in this year’s election- and some of the local races are filling up. There are six republican candidates on file for Allegany County Commissioner including the three incumbents: Creade Brodie Jr, Bill Valentine and Jake Shade. Also on the ballot will be Stu Czapski, Jerry Rice and Dave Caporale. Green Party candidate Michael Leptic has also filed. The board of education race which features four open seats this year now has a total of six candidates but no incumbents. On file to date, Debra Frank, Wesley Mason, David Bohn, Robert Farrell, James “Snake” Robertson and recent board appointee Nick Hadley. Of the three incumbents, Laurie Marchini and Sara Beth Bittinger have announced they won’t be running, while Wayne Foote remains undecided. And there are a total of six candidates running for mayor in Cumberland headed by Mayor Brian Grim. Also running: George Merling; David Smith; Raymond Dye; Raymond Morriss; and Lawrence Becker. Deadline to file is Tuesday, February 27th at 9PM
