Clory Jackson and Caroline Hann, former residents of Frostburg, will return to Allegany County to perform The Brownsville Project as part of the Allegany County NAACP’s Black History Month celebration. The performance will take place Saturday, February 23rd at 2 pm at Metropolitan AME located at 309 Frederick Street, Cumberland, MD 21502. The performance is co-sponsored by Allegany County’s Choose Civility, Women’s Action Coalition and The Allegany County Library System.
The Brownsville Project is Jackson and Hann’s journey to understand the invisible, yet powerful overlap in their family history. Jackson, a descendant of Brownsville, has created The Brownsville Project with Hann to explore and confront the history of Brownsville, a once forgotten community of freed black people in Frostburg, MD. Jackson and Hann uncover the social impact on the lives of Brownsville descendants and Western Maryland residents. The theatre piece is interactive and explores the intersection of race, class, gender and family pride.
