As has become tradition at the start of each new Major League Baseball season- the Allegany County commissioners have again recognized a local individual with a connection to the game and its heritage. Bucky Schriver was honored by the commissioners at the most recent meeting. Schriver, an Allegany County native, has been instrumental in posthumously honoring the legendary professional player Lefty Grove, a native of Lonaconing. Grove, who is considered one of the greatest pitchers of all time, was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
