With the budget process now in full swing, Allegany County will once again get a boost from gaming activities. County Finance Director Jason Bennett says that the county monitors paper gaming and is responsible for what is commonly known as “tip jars”- policing and taxing that activity. Those funds are earmarked for the Board of Education as well as the 26 fire companies in the county. In all, tip jars generate about $360,000 a year for those entities. Bennett said the county also receives 3.75 percent of the electronic slot machine revenue at Rocky Gap Casino Resort. He said a 15-member council decides where the money goes. The total has been roughly $2.3 million in recent years with a large amount of that going to both the public school system as well as higher education…

Much of the money goes to ACM which, I thought, was not considered part of the public school system and cannot, by any stretch of the imagination, be considered “higher education”.
