No one was injured Friday afternoon when a tractor-trailer jackknifed on Interstate 68 on Haystack Mountain- however the incident led to a major traffic backup in downtown Cumberland during the end of the work day Friday. The crash occurred just before 3:30 p.m. in the eastbound lanes around the 41-mile marker, but debris spilled into the westbound lanes. Several vehicles traveling west suffered damage and were towed from the scene. The truck ended up off the roadway. With I-68 shutdown for the a time, many drivers headed into downtown Cumberland to avoid the accident site, leading to long lines of frustrated travelers backed up for a half hour or more. In addition to police agencies and first-responders, hazardous materials units and the State Highway Administration also responded.
