UPDATE:
Units from two counties are operating on a large scrap metal fire on Lockhouse Road in the area of Mexico Farms Road, east of Cumberland.
“Initial 911 callers reported a large fire with black smoke and an explosion heard,” Todd Bowman, public information officer for Allegany County Department of Emergency Service said. “The majority of the 911 calls came from Rt-51 between PPG Road and Mexico Farms Road.”
The Allegany County Joint Communications Center started taking calls just after 8 p.m.
Fire department units from District 16, Oldtown, Baltimore Pike and Ellerslie from Allegany County, along with Wiley Ford and Patterson Creek from Mineral County responded.
“Updates from command at 9:10 p.m. reported the majority of the fire was under control, but units were remaining on the scene,” Bowman added.
No injuries have been reported at the time of this release.
Allegany County 911 tells us there is a large scrap metal pile on fire in the Mexico Farms area.
The situation is said to be on Lockhouse Road, and there have been explosions created by the fire.
The call was reported by 911 at 8:52 PM.
