The Mineral Tribune reports that the Keyser City Council voted recently to extend the time the John R. Shelton Pool is open to include several rentals and two weekends through Sept. 1. The council had originally approved opening the pool for three weeks this summer, which would have meant the facility would close on Aug. 20. Council member and parks and recreation commissioner William Zacot said Wednesday, however, that several entities had asked to rent the pool on dates after that. Zacot said pool attendance this summer has averaged 130 a day. The Save the Keyser Pool Committee, which launched a “Flamingo Flocking” fund raiser to help keep the pool open, reported on their Facebook page Wednesday that the activity has thus far raised $2,029.
