On Friday, Deputies of The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in Westernport, MD. for a reported burglary.
The investigation revealed that the resident had returned home and observed a white male in their garage, the subject then fled in a vehicle. It was discovered that subject had removed a large amount of property and deputies were then advised that someone had also broken into the same shed approximately one week ago and removed property.
The value of the stolen property was approximately $2,500.00.
Information developed over the course of the next day, including the resident who observed a suspicious person in their yard and photographed him, lead to the development of a possible suspect.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect resided in Keyser, WV.
On Saturday, Mineral County Law Enforcement was able to confirm that a vehicle matching the description from the Westernport incident was at the Keyser residence. Deputies of the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from Mineral County Law Enforcement responded to the residence.
The resident, 32 year old Brett Charles Ehrhardt, of Keyser, WV. Was found to be in possession of property from the breaking and entering in Westernport and possibly property from numerous thefts and B&Es throughout the Tri-Towns area. Ehrhardt was taken into custody by WV. authorities for local charges.
Charges were applied for in Allegany County and an arrest warrant was issued for Ehrhardt charging him with multiple counts of felony theft and burglary.
The Maryland warrant will ultimately serve as a detainer in West Virginia to ensure Ehrhardt’s detainment until his extradition back to Maryland.
This investigation is continuing and additional charges and arrests may follow.
