On Saturday, members of the Cumberland Police arrested a 16 year old juvenile in connection with a shooting incident which recently occurred in Cumberland.
The Cumberland Police responded to Memorial Avenue shortly before 1:00 AM on Thursday, January 26, 2017, for a report of two suspects attempting to force entry into a private residence. The suspects were unable to gain entry, and as they were leaving, fired a single shot from a handgun at the residentsinside. No one was struck.
Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) responded to assist in the investigation. Through interviews and review of surveillance video, Investigators were able to identify one of the suspects as 16 year old Jason Leonard Crawford Jr., of Cumberland.
Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Crawford, who is being charged as an adult. He was charged with Armed Robbery, 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, Attempted 3rd Degree Burglary, Use of a Firearm During Commission of a Felony Crime of Violence, Reckless Endangerment, and numerous related charges.
Crawford was taken before a District Court Commissioner for an initial appearance and is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center without bond, pending his next court appearance.
The investigation is continuing by the Cumberland Police and C3I.
