July 5 poses hurdle for Maryland drivers trying to comply with REAL ID

July 5th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

An extra day off to observe Independence Day was a nice surprise for many Maryland state employees, but posed an inconvenience for some drivers trying to comply with federal REAL ID regulations.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan announced Monday that state offices would be closed Friday, making for a longer July Fourth holiday, and forcing drivers to reschedule appointments they had made with the Motor Vehicle Administration.

Maryland drivers — and the MVA — are facing deadlines to provide the agency with required documentation, in cases where drivers were issued REAL ID licenses without having the paperwork on file.

The details that aren’t mentioned are, that if you have the new license with the star on it you will receive a letter or email when you are required to show documents. If you have the old blue and white license you don’t have to present documents at the MVA until it’s time to renew.

REALLY??? One day is going to make or break your ability to comply with this requirement? Here’s an idea take a little personal responsibility for your self and have this done LONG before one day on the calendar puts you in jeopardy. It is NOT like this sneaks up on you out of the blue. I know, I have been through the process without any issues. Did not like it but managed to comply just the same.

Agreed, but it is way to late in the game for pretending you have ANY choice but to bow to the government will. That shipped sailed back when Clinton was in office. Just tired of dumb and lazy people.
