With his trial on unnatural and perverted practice and 4th degree sexual offense scheduled for Wednesday in Allegany County Circuit Court, Dr. William Dando is also the subject of an investigation published in the Sunday edition of the Baltimore Sun.
The investigation catalogs the troublesome past of Dando, who hit the headlines in April when charges were filed by local authorities after allegations of a 41-year old female patient at the LaVale MedExpress were brought to light.
New information in the Sun includes details of a civil "wrongful death" lawsuit that has been twice postponed and will not come to trial until next year at the earliest. That suit alleges that Dando is responsible for the death of Grace Elliot, who the family says died of a drug overdose using medicine prescribed by Dando, who denies responsibility.
The state is looking into the procedure by which Dando was able to obtain and maintain a medical license. The current process includes more weight given to self reporting rather than actual investigation of an applicant's past.
No matter the outcome of the trials of Dr. William Dando, a change in how the state does background checks before issuing medical licenses seems to be a sure bet.
