Allegany County 911 reports that Interstate 68 had to be shutdown east of Cumberland due to accidents and weather conditions.
All lanes were shutdown for about an hour beginning at 5:30 PM due to numerous vehicle mishaps, including one with a vehicle over the guardrail.
Interstate 68 was reopened at around 6:30 PM.
The National Weather Service issued a Short Term Forecast:
Snow showers will remain likely this evening across portions of western Maryland, eastern West Virginia, and Highland County Virginia. The heaviest snow showers could cause a quick coating of accumulation and visibility less than one half mile. As road temperatures drop now that the sun is down, locally slippery roads will become increasingly likely. Motorists should use caution and be prepared for changing conditions if traveling this evening. The greatest chance for accumulating snows will be the higher elevations near the Allegheny Front, including Interstate 68 near Frostburg.
