The Cumberland Times News reports that the search for a successor to Allegany County Health Officer Dr. Sue Raver is underway, but probably will not be concluded until summer, county officials said Thursday. Raver is scheduled to retire at the end of April. Effective May 1, Pat Panuska, Dr. Raver’s deputy, will serve as acting health officer. Dr. Mark Jameson, the medical deputy health officer in Washington County, will provide assistance to Panuska as needed, according to Bretta Reinhard, the county’s public information officer. County officials are working with Dr. Herrera Scott on the search. Scott is the deputy secretary for public health services with the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. The state is accepting applications from interested parties and the deadline to submit applications is May 22nd, Reinhard said. Once the state accepts the applications they are screened at DHMH and then forwarded to Brian Westfall, the county’s personnel director. After the closing date, Westfall will convene a panel and schedule interviews. County officials said they anticipate the interview process will happen in June.
