The Cumberland Times News reports an inmate of the Western Correctional Institution was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center after suffering a stab wound to the collar bone Monday, according to the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
The injured inmate, who is serving a four-year sentence for assault, reportedly suffered a small puncture wound.
The incident reportedly occurred at about 10:30 a.m. outside a dining hall when the victim and another inmate began fighting. The wound was inflicted with use of a homemade weapon, according to the DPSCS.
The suspect was arrested and the weapon confiscated after a correctional officer witnessed the altercation.
The incident remains under investigation by the DPSCS Intelligence Division
