Allegany College of Maryland has been selected by IBM as one of 16 community colleges nationwide for a “New Collar” partnership that prepares area residents for new career opportunities in technology. IBM, which operates a major facility at Rocket Center, W.Va., will work with ACM on information technology curricula design and offer internships and apprenticeships that present students with options for new careers. IBM’s new initiative to expand high-tech career opportunities builds on existing relationships with ACM for skills-training that readies students for jobs technology employers need to fill. Pictured, from left to right, are Jim House and Jerry Hoover, both ACM computer technology faculty members; Cecilia Schartiger, IBM information assurance compliance officer; Trey Clark, IBM cyber and biometrics managed security services leader; and Kristi Smith and Richard Soderman, ACM computer technology faculty. Schartiger prepared for new career options within IBM through coursework at ACM. For more about computer technology programs contact division chair House at jhouse@allegany.edu or 301-784-5308.
