On 1/26/2016 at approximately 11:30 P.M. , a full size tractor and trailer operated by Terry Allen Sprague, 47, of Easton Maine was traveling southbound on Interstate 81 at the Virginia avenue Overpass. Investigation revealed that Sprague veered to the right and struck a concrete barrier causing the tractor trailer to overturn over the Jersey wall. EMS personnel arrived on scene and had to extricate Sprague from the passenger compartment of the tractor due to entrapment. Sprague was transported to Meritus Medical Center in Washington County with non-life threatening injuries. Preliminary investigation revealed that driver error is believed to be the cause of the collision. Southbound Interstate 81 at the Virginia Avenue Overpass will be closed by the Maryland State Highway Administration for an extended period of time due to the removal process. Traffic is currently being diverted onto Route 11(Exit 2) of off southbound Interstate 81. Further updates will be provided on when the interstate will be reopened.
