On Sunday November 26, 2017 Deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a stolen motor vehicle from the driveway of a Lavale residence overnight. There were no suspects at the time the report was taken. Deputies checked local businesses and roadways in the Cumberland and Lavale area before finally locating the stolen vehicle in the parking lot of Wal-Mart in Lavale, MD.
Deputies conducted surveillance on the vehicle for a short while until they observed a man walking towards the stolen vehicle. The Deputy observed the man notice his marked Sheriff’s Patrol vehicle and then the man stopped and pretended that he could not locate his vehicle. The man continued to act in a suspicious manner then turned around and walked back towards the store.
As Deputies made contact with the man near the front doors he tried to throw away the stolen vehicle’s key around the corner of the building and onto the ground, but a witness nearby immediately alerted Deputies to seeing this and the man was placed under arrest.
The man has been identified as 32 year old Daniel Monrose Jr of Hyattsville, MD. Monrose was charged with stealing the motor vehicle and other theft related charges. Monrose was Held Without Bond and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center pending his next court appearance.
Investigation is ongoing into Monrose’s involvement in a theft from Wal-Mart and CDS related charges stemming from this arrest.
