Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced last week a $3.8 billion proposal he says will improve public schools in the state by constructing new school buildings and providing opportunities for creativity in turning around low-rated schools. Lawmakers have mixed feelings regarding the governor's proposed plan. Some approve, while others say Hogan is ignoring the Kirwan Commission's work. Sen. Bill Ferguson said in a statement he was "pleased" by Hogan's proposal, while House Speaker Adrienne A. Jones feels Hogan is undervaluing the work of the Kirwan Commission.
