Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced Thursday that a 5-year-old girl in Howard County has tested positive for COVID-19. On Wednesday night, Hogan announced the state's first death from the disease. The girl is the first child to get the disease in the state, which now has 107 cases of the virus. That marks an 88% increase in the past 48 hours. Hogan has ordered that Baltimore Washington International Airport close its doors to anyone other than ticketed passengers, those assisting disabled passengers and airport staff. Effective 5 p.m. Thursday, the governor ordered that all shopping malls and entertainment venues to close. Locally that will not include the Walmart store at the Country Club Mall. Other executive orders enacted by Hogan include allowing tractor-trailers to exceed their legal weight limit to allow further transportation of goods. Also, he lowered the cap on mass gatherings to only 10 people…
The governor expressed frustration with the fact that many Marylanders apparently are not getting the message when it comes to just how serious this issue has become…
The governor warned those ignoring the state mandates that they are in violation of state law and endangering the lives of their neighbors. Other announcements Thursday, the launch of a new website "Maryland Unites" that will provide opportunities for volunteers in the state to help their communities; and the need for blood donations to the American Red Cross.

It is a shame that the governor could not build up such a fury at those in the population that regularly take the lives of their neighbors as well as maiming and robbing countless others.

Bob, maybe a little perspective will help.
Don’t misunderstand what I am saying, violent crime is a scourge that needs to be very aggressively addressed.
However, if Allegany County sees the mortality rates Italy is expereincing, the numbers are staggering.
At a 4% overall mortality rate, we would see roughly 3,000 people die over the next several months. The question then becomes how fast does this occur. Assuming that these deaths were spaced out evenly across six months, that would equal 115 deaths per week – every single week.
These pandemics usually do not unfold that way. What we could see is a spike in deaths doubling or even tripling that number across four or five weeks.
Please stay safe everyone.
