The Allegany County Animal Shelter Management Foundation took over management of the animal shelter from the county on July 1, 2013, has transformed the shelter from an 85 percent kill rate to a 97 percent save rate shelter. The administrative staff moved from its old building at the Furnace Street site into the adjacent former Allegany County Sheriff’s Office and capital improvements are continuing with the long range goal remaning to construct a new shelter.
