Governor Larry Hogan today released the following statement in response to the Senate Finance and House Economic Matters joint hearing on Augustine Commission legislation:
“Making Maryland more competitive is something we have led the discussion on for four years and it is one of the main reasons I was elected governor. Putting the Augustine Commission together was a good move and I am glad Senate President Miller and Speaker Busch decided to join us in this important conversation. The initial report was a strong start and the majority of the legislation being proposed now is common-sense and should be passed. However, no discussion about making Maryland more competitive is complete without also addressing our burdensome tax structure – undoubtedly the main reason our state's economy continues to struggle. I look forward to working with the General Assembly to address the commission’s tax recommendations later this year.”
