A hearing on stringent new tattoo regulations for Allegany County is planned for Thursday as part of the County Commission meeting at 5 p.m. At that time, members of the public, tattoo shop owners, artists and others will be able to offer their comments on the proposed regulations. According to Brian Dicken director of environmental health at the County’s health department, the current regulations are outdated and don’t say a word about body piercing of noses, navels, lips and other body parts. The new regulations would update and clarify sterilization and other sanitary procedures in the industry. Dicken emphasized that the overwhelming majority of tattoo parlors in the county are excellent, law abiding operations- but there are some cases where people are doing business without a license and without following any standards or regulations.
