Cumberland Police reports that at approximately 2:02 AM, officers were dispatched to 506 Pennsylvania Avenue for a reported robbery with a handgun.
While enroute officers received information that the victim had been struck in the head with the weapon and was requesting medical attention. Officers were also advised that the suspects were running from the residence. Officers arrived and observed a male walking in the area.
Officers attempted to stop and talk with the subject but he failed to stop and fled on foot. Officers gave chase and during the foot pursuit the male subject dropped a book bag that he was carrying. In the book bag officers located a loaded handgun. Officers also observed a silver passenger vehicle circling the area.
Additional officers were able to locate that vehicle a short time later on South Street. A traffic stop was initiated on Somerville Avenue where officers contacted several subjects inside the vehicle. The officer who was involved in the foot pursuit arrived and identified the rear seat passenger in the vehicle as the one that ran on foot and dropped the book bag containing the handgun.
The victim from the robbery refused medical treatment and was brought to the scene of the traffic stop. The victim was able to identify the suspect has being at the scene of the robbery. At this point 20 year old Dajaun Mikel Pendergast was placed under arrest for the firearms related charges.
Pendergast was transported to Police Headquarters for processing. C3I was contacted to assist the patrol division with the robbery investigation. At this time no charges have been filed in connection with the robbery and the investigation is ongoing. Pendergast was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held without bail.
