The annual Handgun Day at the Frostburg Rifle Range will take place Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is sponsored by the Big Savage Sportsmen's Club. The free event is designed for folks considering handgun ownership or those who own a handgun but are not comfortable shooting it, according to spokesman Bernie Zlomek.
Participants may arrive at any time during the open hours and will be able to shoot a variety of calibers and styles of handguns made available by Kerr Brothers Guns, Cumberland.
Those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
Maryland Natural Resources Police officers will be available to explain laws regarding transport, storage, safety and responsibilities of handgun ownership. Grips and aiming and firing techniques will be demonstrated.
Live firing will be supervised by National Rifle Association certified range safety officers.
To inquire, call 301-689-9291 or 301-689-1519.
The range is reached by turning off of U.S. Route 40 just west of Frostburg and onto Clifton Terrace, which is across the highway from Kemp Drive.
