Hagerstown Woman Charged With Arson

Deputy State Fire Marshals have served a criminal summons on Debra Sue Turner (54) after determining she was responsible for intentionally setting her home on fire. The incident originally occurred at 7:02 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 16911 Lakeview Court located within the Lakeside Village community in Hagerstown. 

     Turner was charged after investigators determined she ignited combustibles with an open flame in the living room of the double-wide trailer. Turner was inside the home along with her (2) adults sons with one being transported to Meritus Medical Center for minor injuries. He was later treated and released.  Forty-six firefighters from Halfway Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding fire departments responded and discovered the home ablaze. With approximately $85,000.00 dollars in damages, the home is considered a complete loss. 

     Turner was served the summons without incident this morning. Turner was charged with Arson 1st Degree, Arson 2nd Degree, (2) counts of Reckless Endangerment, (2) counts of Malicious Burning 1st Degree, (2) counts of Malicious Burning 2nd Degree and (2) counts of Malicious Destruction of Property over $1,000.00. If convicted, she faces penalties of up to 50 years imprisonment and/or $80,000

     Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division assisted in the investigation.
