The item is somewhat buried on tonight’s agenda of the Cumberland City Council- but it represents the first formal agreement between the city and CSX Transportation that could lead to the replacement of three Westside bridges that are currently closed. Listed as part of what is called the “consent agenda” is an agreement that the city will accept the quitclaim bill that will transfer ownership of the Cumberland Street Bridge from CSX to the city. Cumberland, along with Fayette and Washington street bridges have long been considered CSX property, however the city can secure federal dollars to cover a significant amount of the cost of the Cumberland Street bridge if it owns the structure.
