After more than a year of discussion centered on re-opening each end of the downtown mall to one way traffic while maintaining a closed pedestrian area in the center- the Cumberland Mayor and City Council have scrapped that idea and are looking in a new direction. A 90 minute work session on the future design of the mall held Tuesday night saw the council members “reluctantly” agree to a concept of one way traffic, running the full distance of the mall west to east, with a bike lane. Limited parking may also be part of the final design.
