Saturday afternoon around 3 PM, Troopers from the Maryland State Police McHenry Barracks responded to a single vehicle collision on Interstate 68 near Garrett Highway, Grantsville.
The investigation revealed Jonnille Morrissey (35 years old of Lonaconing, MD) was operating her 2004 Mercury Mountaineer on westbound I-68 just west of Garrett Highway. Morrissey lost control of the vehicle do to freezing rain and icy road conditions. The vehicle traveled into the grass median and struck the guardrail. The vehicle then overturned, traveled over the guardrail, and came to final rest in the eastbound lanes. There were 3 occupants in the vehicle, Morrissey and 2 passengers. Morrissey and one of the passengers were ejected from the vehicle. Morrissey was pronounced dead at the scene.
Northern Garrett Rescue Squad transported the two passengers to WMHS in Cumberland, Maryland for treatment. A Forensic Investigator, Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department/ EMS and Maryland State Highway Administration assisted at the scene.
