The national average price at the pump has remained relatively flat over the past week; however, Maryland’s average continues a slow about-face as prices trend downward after rising late August. Lower prices this week in many metro areas across the state, with the exception of Cumberland and Hagerstown, are helping to drive down the state average.
Today’s national average of $2.18 per gallon is unchanged compared to last week and still higher versus last month’s price by a nickel. However, overall, gas prices remain lower than last year with drivers saving an average of 13 cents per gallon compared to a year ago.
Maryland’s average at the pump is two cents less than the nationwide cost at $2.16 per gallon. The state average is two cents lower than last week’s price, but eight cents more than a month ago. As with the nationwide trend, Maryland’s price year-over-year continues to be lower with today’s cost 15 cents per gallon less than this time last year.
