Gas prices across the Mid-Atlantic region have resumed their upward climb following days of inactivity. Today’s national gas price average is $2.70 per gallon, which is up four cents in the last week, up 18 cents in the last month and 29 cents higher than this time last year. Today’s price is now three cents higher than last year’s peak price on September 8 following Hurricane Harvey’s landfall. Maryland’s average cost at the pump is a penny lower than the national average at $2.69 per gallon. The state average is two cents more than last week’s price, 18 cents higher than last month, and 28 cents more than last year’s price on this date. Cumberland and the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC are averaging well above the $2.70 per gallon mark.

Drivers across the Mid-Atlantic region may be pouting as they head to the pump, paying more for gas than they did last week. Today’s national gas price average is $2.56 per gallon, which is four cents higher than one week ago, seven cents higher than one month ago and 36 cents higher than this time last year. Maryland’s average cost at the pump is pricing four cents lower than the national average at $2.52 per gallon. The state’s average reflects an increase of seven cents from a week ago, a nine cents rise compared to last month, and a 31 cents increase over last year’s price. In Cumberland, prices have jumped 8 cents a gallon from a week ago.
